kernel build fails with:

drivers/built-in.o: In function `e1000_lv_jumbo_workaround_ich8lan':
(.text+0x3e7a8): undefined reference to `crc32_le'

when CONFIG_CRC32 is not set or does not match the CONFIG_E1000E
selection.
